Trinidad and Tobago cyclist Michael Ackee made a statement at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games.
Ackee finished 6th overall in his Jr Pan American campaign in the Men's Sprint creating his Person Best time.

Who is Michael Ackee?
21-year-old cyclist, Michael Ackee, known for his accomplishments in track cycling also enjoys playing badminton, Tassa (drumming ensemble drawn from an amalgamation of various North Indian folk drumming traditions), learning new languages and is also passionate about Aviation and is currently pursuing his dream career as a Commercial Pilot. Michael was introduced to cycling at the age of 14 and with the support of his family and friends, he worked extremely hard and that took him to his first International game the Jr. Pan American Games held at Cali, Columbia.
Coping with not performing his best
Ackee stated "Usually I don't be upset about it too long, I definitely feel disappointed, yes, but it doesn't last for long because usually, I would say ok, this is the results, I feel like how I need to feel about it and then I say... What can I do better next time? when asked about his coping process with not performing at his best.
Supporters impact on an Athlete's Mental Health.
Ackee continued to stress the importance of respect when coming to supporters interaction with an athlete, he also spoke about respecting the athlete's privacy and supporting them but not being too demanding or overbearing.
Ackee's tip for Upcoming Athletes
When asked his one tip for all upcoming athletes he stated "Consistency, this is key even when you are suffering, even when you feel you cannot wake up in the morning to go, you know, whatever sport you choose it's not going to get easier, because you would be putting out your all even at a professional level, so you not going to become easier, you would definitely perform better, you would feel more comfortable as your knowledge and experience for the sport increases"
After a successful podcast with Michael, it is safe to say his drive and determination to achieve goals is admirable and the future of sports is definitely in good hands.
